FAQs
(Frequently Asked Questions about Nose Reshape Surgery)

In addition to the nose reshape queries outlined below, please refer to Factors Common to All Surgical Procedures.

Q.     The nose rehape operation sounds horrendous so is it unbearable afterwards?

A.     Surprisingly the answer is no. Despite the nature of the nose rehape operation, postoperative pain is unusual and mild pain killers are all that will be required. Bruising and swelling around the eyes is noticeable for about a week afterwards/

Q.     What will my friends say when they see the splint on my nose, a sure giveaway that I have had a nose job?

A.     Not at all. Simply tell them that you broke your nose in an accident and it had to be straightened.

Q.     Will everyone notice afterwards that I’ve had a nose job?

A.     It is extremely unlikely for anyone to spot that you have had an alteration to the shape of your nose. The onlooker will simply not recall the shape of your nose before surgery unless he/she has a preoperative photograph to compare.

Q.     Can I have the exact size and shape nose that I want?

A.     It is important to remember that human tissue does not behave in the same manner as an inanimate object such as a piece of stone or metal so it is unreasonable to expect it to conform to the exact shape requested after an invasive procedure.

Whereas the surgeon will attempt to achieve a result which is as pleasing to the patient as possible as discussed at preoperative consultation, he/she has no power over healing or altering the quality of the tissues which make up the nose. The net result is that there are limitations as to what can be surgically achieved even in the most expert of hands.

Thus the amount of scar tissue formed under the skin as well as the quality, thickness and elasticity of the overlying skin of the nose all will have a major influence on the final aesthetic result.

Finally it must be remembered and accepted that the purpose of the nose reshape operation is improvement and not perfection.

Q.     If I don’t like the result can anything further be done?

A.    Revision surgery is a possibility in those cases where an unfavourable outcome has occurred as a result of poor or inadequate surgery or where excessive scar tissue has formed under the skin and marred what would otherwise have been a good result.

It is always more difficult to achieve an excellent result with further surgery because the original anatomy of the nose has been altered and because scar tissue has been formed under the skin making it extremely difficult to predict how the nose will heal after a further procedure.
