FAQs
(Frequently Asked Questions about Breast Uplift Surgery)
In addition to the breast uplift queries outlined below, please refer to Factors Common to All Surgical Procedures.
Q. I am concerned that my breasts are rather droopy and I find difficulty in getting bras to fit. Can I still have the breast uplift operation and breastfeed afterwards?
A. There is no contraindication to surgery if you are thinking of having more children in the future. However you must bear in mind that it may no longer be possible to breastfeed afterwards although the chances of that happening are small. You must also take into consideration that your scars might stretch as your breasts enlarge during pregnancy.
Q. Will the scarring after a breast uplift put off my partner?
A. We strongly recommend that your partner attends for preoperative consultation with you in order that he is made fully aware of the procedure and the usual course of postoperative events. The surgeon will gladly show you photographs of results so that you are able to make an informed consent. You can then discuss the procedure together at your leisure and take your time in deciding if it really is what you want and particularly if you are both prepared to wait until the scars have matured and faded which can take up to three years in some cases. In addition you must remember that in addition to stretching, scars can become thickened (hypertrophic or keloid) thereby requiring further treatment to improve the aesthetic result.
Q. My nipples are very sensitive and I am concerned that I may lose sensation to both my nipples. How common is this?
A. In the immediate post operative phase you may find that the sensitivity of one or both nipples may be reduced or altered in some way. In all but a small minority, sensitivity should return to normal although it can take several months.
