Breast Enlargement

Before The Breast Enlargement Operation

Introduction to Breast Enlargement

Breast enlargement (clinically known as breast augmentation) is more commonly known as a "boob job".

Breast enlargement is the most common cosmetic surgical procedure performed in the UK today.

There are no exercises or medications available, which can safely, effectively and permanently increase breast size. The recognised, accepted and regularly performed method is the breast enlargement operation
(breast augmentation - or "boob job") which involves the insertion of a silicone breast implant behind the natural breast tissue.

All breast enlargement implants available have an outer silicone plastic shell made of silastic, which has either a smooth or textured/rough surface. It is the nature of the filling substance that differentiates the types of breast enlargement implants that are available. Breast implants are manufactured in various shapes and sizes to suit different breast enlargement
requirements. The London Cosmetic Surgery Centre uses the highest quality silicone implants provided by Nagor, the only British manufacturer of silicone breast implants. Nagor have been dedicated to the specialist design, manufacture and supply of the highest quality breast implants since 1979 and now offer the NagorEnhance® Patient Warranty Programme - a lifetime warranty on all of their silicone implants.

Despite the media scaremongering in the past there is no evidence that breast implants predispose to or cause disease or illness.

The London Cosmetic Surgery Centre has successfully performed breast enlargements ("boob jobs") on hundreds of women in the last 20 years.

Am I Suitable For Breast Enlargement Surgery
?

Women may seek a breast enlargement (breast augmentation - or "boob job") for one of the following reasons:

1. If they have never had a full development of breast tissue and simply wish to have larger breasts.
2. If they have had normal breast development but wish to have larger breast because their breasts have decreased in size following pregnancy, weight loss or with increase in age.
3. If breast tissue has been surgically removed and they seek breast reconstruction which usually involves the insertion of a breast implant.

Factors to Consider Before Breast Enlargement Surgery

The following factors all influence the size and shape of the breast implant that it is possible to insert:
  • The amount of breast tissue
  • The amount of covering skin
  • The chest width
  • The patient's expectations

Only an experienced operating surgeon will be able to give you an idea about what size of breast enlargement is possible.

Despite the manufacturer’s lifetime warranty, the London Cosmetic Surgery Centre still recommends a breast scan after 10 years to review your implants.

You will need to take a week off work for a breast enlargement operation (
breast augmentation / boob job) itself and for recovery after your breast enlargement operation
.

The Breast Enlargement Consultation

At the preoperative consultation for a breast enlargement procedure, you will be asked to complete a medical questionnaire before you see the surgeon. After reviewing your previous medical history with you, the surgeon will specifically enquire about the concerns you have about your breasts and what you wish to achieve with a breast enlargement operation (breast augmentation or boob job).

After examining you, the surgeon will outline what can be achieved with breast enlargement surgery and give you a detailed explanation of the breast enlargement procedure, the likely results of your breast augmentation and the usual course of postoperative events. Every attempt will be made to give an approximation of the final size and shape of the enlarged breasts by showing photographs of previous results. Every patient is unique and the size and shape of the breast implant is usually determined at the time of the consultation; the final decision about the breast implants will be made at the operation. The surgeon will also answer any questions that you may have about the breast enlargement operation (breast augmentation or boob job)
.

At the end of your breast enlargement consultation, you will be issued with detailed written information about the breast enlargement operation which you are strongly advised to read carefully at home. If you have any further queries/concerns about breast augmentation (boob jobs), these can be discussed with the surgeon at a further consultation.
