Breast Enlargement
After The Breast Enlargement Operation
Postoperative Management
You will be required to spend 1 night in hospital following a breast enlargement operation (breast augmentation or "boob job") before being discharged home. You will be issued with a telephone number to ring in the event of a problem or query.
A properly fitted bra should be worn day and night for two weeks after your breast enlargement surgery. Thereafter a bra should be worn as usual.
The wound dressings under each breast should be kept dry and patients should wash themselves with a sponge, avoiding baths and showers until the incisions from the breast enlargement operation have properly healed.
Heavy lifting should be avoided for two weeks after breast enlargement surgery. Strenuous exercise such as aerobics and swimming should be avoided for at least six weeks after your breast enlargement operation in order to give the wounds adequate time to heal fully.
You must attend a follow-up appointment with the surgeon a week to ten days after your breast enlargement surgery for review and stitch removal.
Recovery & Results Following Breast Enlargement
Most patients undergoing a breast enlargement operation are young and fit and tend to recover very quickly. Unless their occupation entails strenuous activity or heavy lifting, most women can go back to work just a few days after their breast enlargement surgery.
Most patients are completely comfortable with the change to their breasts and cease to be aware of the breast implants within a few weeks after their breast enlargement operation. There are no physical restrictions after healing of the breasts has occurred and most women will quickly forget they have breast implants and carry on as before.
