After The Eyelid Surgery Operation  


Post-Operative Management

If you are having upper eyelid surgery only you can be discharged home on the same day. If you are having lower eyelid surgery you will be required to spend 1 night in hospital before being discharged home. You will be issued with a telephone number to ring in the event of a problem or query.

In the immediate postoperative phase:

• Quick movements should be avoided.
• Cold water compresses are applied to the eyes for five minutes every hour for the first twelve hours and then three times daily for three days in order to reduce the swelling and bruising.
• Ointment and eye drops can be applied at the discretion of the surgeon.

Once home, you will need to rest as much as possible for the next few days. Contact lenses should not be worn for at least two weeks afterwards.

Normal activities can be resumed in seven to fourteen days.

You must attend a follow up appointment with the surgeon a week to ten days after your surgery for review.

Recovery & Results Following Eyelid Surgery

Most of the bruising and swelling around your eyes will disappear after a week and you should be confident to appear in public after that time. It must be stressed that in some people the recovery time may take longer.

The result of successful eye bag removal can be dramatic and extremely pleasing for you as well as long lasting. The best result is obtained if a facelift is performed as well. Eyelids without creases and bags will look much younger and the eyes will often look larger.
